Have you booked a flight, hotel accommodations, or rental car with Priceline, but can’t fly out to take your vacation after all? Read this quick guide on how to cancel a flight you booked with Priceline and get to know more about how their refund policies work:

Booking with Priceline

Priceline is a travel website that allows you to book flights, hotel rooms, and rental cars. It is a hassle-free way of booking as you get to see all the options at a glance and can book everything you could possibly need in one channel.

Priceline Cancelation Policy: How to Cancel a Flight You Booked with Priceline

There are two ways for you to cancel a flight you booked through Priceline.

Option 1: Cancel through the Priceline website

  1. Sign in to your Priceline account.
  2. Click My Trips or search Find My Trips.
  3. Select View/Cancel Itinerary next to the reservation you want to cancel.
  4. Click the “Cancel” button on the reservation page and read through the policies and what will happen if you will cancel. If you are satisfied and sure, click Cancel.
  5. Wait for an email confirming the cancellation of your booking. Some emails do not include the refund/credit request updates yet. Priceline will notify you when they have processed that request.

Important note: If you booked two one-way flights, you will need to cancel each flight separately. Canceling one does not automatically cancel the other.

Option 2: Cancel through Customer Care

If you are unable to cancel your flight through the website or any other of Priceline’s online tools, you can contact Customer Care at 1-800-774-2354.

Important note: Some airlines don’t allow cancellations. When that happens, Priceline will not be able to override its policy. You may check the airline’s updated policies as the rules continue to change all the time.

Priceline’s Flight Cancellation Policy

General Flight Cancellation Guidelines

As long as you book your flights using Priceline’s standard booking, meaning you did not book one of their special deals, you may be able to cancel or change your flights and request a refund. This, however, depends mostly on the airline’s policy. If an airline changes the flight’s itinerary, you may also be allowed to cancel the ticket without paying for the penalty. This is also subject to the airline’s policy.

24-Hour Rule

As mandated by government law in the United States, Priceline abides by the 24 hours cancellation. This is for all tickets unless otherwise specified—such as the Express Deals.

Priceline Cancellation Fee

Price charges a cancellation fee where cancellation is allowed. It can cost anywhere between $200-$300. You may also have to pay a processing fee on top of it. If you want to avoid paying additional fees, be sure to read the fine lines of your reservation before you pay for it.

Cancellation Policy with a Travel Insurance

If you purchased your flight ticket together with travel insurance, you might have better luck canceling it. Most Priceline purchases are subject to the cancellation policies of airlines. However, if you bought your flight tickets in combination with travel insurance on Priceline’s website, you might have more leeway canceling your tickets, as long as it follows the travel insurance policy rules. Reasonable causes for cancellation usually include unforeseen sickness, injury, death of a loved one, loss of a job, and more.

Can I cancel or ask for a refund for any flight I bought through Priceline?

Priceline will only honor a refund or cancellation if the flight meets the following requirements:

  1. It’s part of the policy of Priceline’s partner that will be providing the service to you.
  2. You have opted for free cancellation (this means an additional cost when you book).

Priceline Refund Policy: How long until I get my refund?

If you requested a refund, you might have to wait two to three days while Priceline processes the refund. In some instances, it may take even longer, depending on the situation.

Once you are qualified for a refund, the amount will be credited to your bank account after a few days.

Can I check the status of my refund?

Yes, you can check the Priceline website for an update on your refunds. If you are unable to do that, you can contact Priceline’s customer service to assist you and ask for an update on the status of your refund from them.

How to Change Your Flight with Priceline

  1. Identify your new travel dates and desired itinerary.
  2. Call Priceline to complete the exchange.

The rules, fees, and guidelines for flights depend on the airline and the type of fare purchased. If you aren’t sure what these are, you can always review your online itinerary. If your airline’s fare rules allow you to change your flight, you’ll have to do it before your first flight departs.

Please note that if the price for the new itinerary is different from the original ticket, you will have to pay the difference in fares, plus the airline’s change fee. If the new fare is lower, you can try calling the airline directly. Priceline doesn’t offer airline travel vouchers, so you will lose any decrease if Priceline will process the change for you.

Here are a few other reminders to keep in mind:

  • Name changes (including corrections and adjustments) are not permitted.
  • Priceline cannot override an airline’s rules, airfare, or change fees.
  • If you are not ready to book a new reservation yet, some airlines will let you cancel your existing reservation and put the value of the ticket into a future travel credit.
  • Whether you cancel or change your itinerary, you must do it before your first flight.

Priceline and COVID-19 Travel Policies

Because of COVID-19, some countries have restricted entry—especially for those who have been in affected areas. Before you make any booking or reservation, it’s best to ensure that you will be able to enter the country where you want to go. Check the national, local, and health advisories of the country where you plan to book a hotel stay.

Priceline does not guarantee a full refund for the entire package you booked. In some cases, they can only refund a portion of it. For further questions, they recommend contacting the travel partner directly—be it an airline, hotel, or rental car service—to ask for other available options.

Policies for Priceline’s Special Deals—Express Deals, Pricebreaker, and Name Your Own Trip

Priceline also offers some special deals such as the “Express Deal,” the “Pricebreaker,” and “Name Your Own Trip.”

Express Deals

Express Deals are special offers from mainline carriers that sell the flights you are interested in for a lot less than they actually cost. When you click on the deal, you will see the list of airlines that Priceline considers “Trusted Airlines”, including Air France, British Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, Air Canada, American Airlines, and more.

Customers who take advantage of the deal usually end up saving anywhere between 10%-50% for flights—but there is a catch. While Priceline provides you with the list of potential airlines you could be flying with, you do not know which one you will end up getting. The website will only show you a time frame for departure time, but you will only get to see the rest of the details after you’ve paid for it and when you’ve received your flight itinerary.

“Pricebreaker”

Pricebreaker, on the other hand, works similarly to Express Deals. With Pricebreakers, Priceline shows you three similar, highly-rated hotels listed at a single low price. After you make the purchase, you’ll get to see which of those three properties is the hotel where you will be staying.

Name Your Own Trip

What makes Priceline unique from other online booking agencies is its “Name Your Own Price” feature. This allows you to choose some essential details for your trip and then tell Priceline how much you want to pay for it. Priceline will then try to match your bid with an airline, hotel, or car rental company willing to accept your price. Once they accept your bid, Priceline will fill in the rest of the details and reveal them to you.

Cancellation and Refund Policies for Priceline Express Deals, Pricebreaker, or Name Your Own Trip

Priceline’s special deals—Express Deals, Pricebreakers, and Name Your Own Trip—are non-changeable and non-refundable unless you add trip protection at an extra cost. Since you can buy these at a much lower price, Priceline does not allow refunds, changes, or cancellations.

The terms and conditions of these special deals are extremely strict. If, after booking and paying, you decide that you do not like the deal, you have no option but to stick to it. You may be able to call your credit card company or the airline directly (in case you want to change or refund your Express Deal ticket) to request a refund, but it’s best not to get your hopes up. Be prepared to fly with any carrier or stay at any hotel or forfeit the money you used to pay for the deal.

Priceline Hotel and Rental Car Cancellation Policy

When it comes to hotel accommodations and rental cars, Priceline doesn’t have a blanket policy. This means that individual hotels and rental car companies control the cancellation policies.

How to Cancel a Priceline Rental Car Reservation

Just like canceling flights, there are two ways you can go about canceling your rental car reservation with Priceline.

Option 1: Cancel through the Priceline website.

Some emails don’t include the refund/credit request updates yet. Priceline will notify you when they have processed that request.

Option 2: Cancel through Customer Care

If you are unable to cancel your rental car through the website or any other of Priceline’s online tools, you can contact Customer Care at 1-800-774-2354.

Does canceling my rental car reservation cancel the insurance as well?

Yes, if you bought both together in a bundle. When you cancel your rental car reservation, you may be able to get a 100% refund for the insurance, depending on the provider’s policy.

Important note: Not all rental car companies allow cancellations. Check the rental car policies frequently as they constantly update their policies.

How to Cancel a Priceline Hotel Reservation

Option 1: Cancel through the Priceline website.

Some emails don’t include the refund/credit request updates yet. Priceline will notify you when they have processed that request.

Option 2: Cancel through Customer Care

If you are unable to cancel your hotel reservation through the website or any other of Priceline’s online tools, you can contact Customer Care at 1-800-774-2354.
