How World of Hyatt Points Are Earned on Paid Stays
World of Hyatt points earned from paid stays typically include:
- Base points earned per eligible dollar spent on the room rate and qualifying charges
- Elite status bonus points (Discoverist, Explorist, or Globalist)
- Promotional bonus points from registered Hyatt offers
- Credit card points if you pay with a Hyatt co-branded credit card
Most Hyatt brands earn points on eligible room rates booked directly with Hyatt. Taxes, resort fees, and some incidentals may not qualify.
How This Hyatt Points Calculator Works
This calculator estimates the total number of World of Hyatt points you can earn on a paid stay using the following structure:
Eligible Spend × Base Earning Rate = Base Points Earned
Additional points may then be added for:
- Elite status bonuses
- Registered promotional offers
- Credit card earning (if selected)
How are World of Hyatt Points Calculated?
Here is the background on how the number of points you earn per stay is calculated.
Base Rate & Eligible Charges:
The first thing you need to know is that you don't earn points on the total amount of your folio (invoice). Things like fees, taxes and possibly other charges you bill to your room, like a round of golf or an excursion, do not earn points (That is, unless you use a Hyatt Credit Card… more on that later).
You’ll earn 5 points per dollar spent on the Base Room Rate at any Hyatt property.
You may also earn Base Points for payment of Eligible Incidental Charges and Eligible Non-Stay Charges. These vary by property and generally include resort/destination fees, additional-cleaning fees (where applicable), spa, food, beverage and lounge expenditures (except at outlets not operated by the hotel or resort) and other charges, such as laundry, dry cleaning, and telephone.

Bonus Points from Elite Status
If you have elite status with the World of Hyatt program you will earn extra bonus points.
- Discoverist: 10% bonus points on eligible purchases.
- Explorist: 20% bonus points on eligible purchases.
- Globalist: 30% bonus points on eligible purchases.

Paying with a Hyatt Co-Branded Credit Card
Here is where the total cost of your stay comes into play. If you use a World of Hyatt Co-Branded credit card to pay your bill, you earn Bonus Hyatt points for the entire cost of your bill, not just the base room rate.
So while you don’t earn base points for things like taxes, fees and anything else you charge to your room, you will earn points for those items when you pay with a Hyatt credit card.
If I am staying at a Hyatt and plan to pay with my credit card, I always make sure to charge everything I can to my room, so I can get the extra bonus points for those charges.
When This Hyatt Points Calculator Is Most Accurate
This calculator is most accurate when:
- You enter the eligible room rate before taxes and unrelated fees
- You include only promotions you are registered for
- You account for Hyatt’s lower base earning rate compared to other hotel programs
Certain special rates, wholesale bookings, or third-party reservations may earn fewer points or none at all. Use this calculator as a planning and comparison tool rather than an exact accounting statement.
