Hilton has the widest range of points you can earn per stay of any hotel chain. On the low end, it can be as little as 3 points per dollar, but you can earn over 34 points per dollar if you have Diamond status and use a Hilton Aspire credit card to pay your bill. Check out our calculator to determine how many Hilton points you'll earn during a stay.
Hilton Honors Points Calculator
How This Hilton Points Calculator Works
This calculator estimates your total Hilton Honors points earned and the approximate value of those points for a given stay.
At a high level, this tool estimates points using a structure like:
Eligible Spend × Base Earning Rate = Base Points
Then it adds (if applicable):
- Elite bonus points (based on your status)
- Promotion bonus points (if you select/include a promo)
- Credit card points (if you include card earning)
If your stay includes taxes, resort fees, parking, or incidentals, note that not all charges always earn points. For the most accurate estimate, use the eligible room rate (and only include additional charges if you’re confident they earn points for your booking type).
When This Points-Earned Calculator Is Most Accurate
This calculator tends to be most accurate when:
- You input the eligible nightly rate (not a total that includes non-earning fees)
- You select the correct elite status (if applicable)
- You only include promotions you’re actually registered for
- You treat the result as an estimate, not an exact statement of what Hilton will post
If you are on a special rate (group, wholesale, certain corporate bookings) or using third-party bookings, points earning rules can differ.
What Are Hilton Honors Points Worth?
While this calculator focuses on estimating how many Hilton Honors points you can earn from a stay, you will also need to understand what those points are worth in practical terms.
Industry estimates typically place the value of Hilton Honors points at roughly 0.4–0.6 cents per point, though actual value varies significantly by hotel, dates, and redemption type. Our calculator assumes a value of 0.5 cents per point.
This valuation range is provided only to help interpret the results of this calculator. The primary purpose of this tool is to estimate points earned, not to determine the optimal way to redeem them.
Interpreting Your Results: What Your Points May Be Worth
After calculating how many Hilton Honors points you can earn, it’s helpful to translate that number into a rough dollar value. Using a commonly cited average valuation of 0.5 cents per point, you can estimate the approximate value of the points earned from your stay.
Quick Reference: Estimated Value of Points Earned
| Points Earned | Approximate Value (0.5¢ per point) |
|---|---|
| 5,000 points | ~$25 |
| 10,000 points | ~$50 |
| 25,000 points | ~$125 |
| 50,000 points | ~$250 |
This table is intended only as a reference to help you understand the scale of your earnings. Actual redemption value may be higher or lower depending on how and where points are used.
Important Notes About Accuracy
Actual Hilton Honors points earned may vary based on final folio posting, booking channel eligibility, property-specific rules, and changes to Hilton Honors earning policies. This calculator is intended for planning and comparison purposes.
How are Hilton Honors Points Calculated?
Here is a little more detail on how the number of points you earn per stay is calculated.
Base Rate & Eligible Charges:
The first thing you need to know is that you don't earn points on the total amount of your folio (invoice). Things like fees, taxes and possibly other charges you bill to your room, like a round of golf or an excursion, do not earn points (That is, unless you use a Hilton Credit Card… more on that later).
At most Hilton properties, you'll earn 10 points per dollar spent on the base room rate. The one exception to this is if you stay at either a Tru by Hilton property or a Home2 Suites property. They only earn 5 points per dollar spent. Avoid staying at those properties if you can!
| Brand Type | Base Points per $1 |
|---|---|
| Most Hilton Hotels | 10 points ($1) |
| Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, Spark, & Tru | 5 points ($1) |
| LivSmart Studios | 3 points ($1) |
You will also earn points on what Hilton call “Eligible Room Charges”. This includes things such as room service, telephone charges and internet charges.
Food and Beverage purchased at the hotel and charged to your room is normally considered an eligible charge for earning base points, but not always. Hilton does not specifically call out food and beverage purchases in their terms and conditions, so there is no clear answer.

To compare points redemptions against cash prices, use our Points Value (CPP) Calculator.

Elite Status:
If you have Hilton elite status, you can earn a bonus on top of your base points. In general, the bonus is calculated as a percentage of the base points earned on eligible spend.
As a practical planning estimate, the elite bonus rates are commonly described as:
- Diamond Reserve: 120% bonus
- Diamond: 100% bonus
- Gold: 80% bonus
- Silver: 20% bonus
For more information about the perks of Hilton elite status, check out this chart that shows the added points you earn with each status level, as well as the other perks you will receive.

As a side note, Hilton also offers the easiest way to earn top tier status. If you have the Hilton Aspire credit card, you will be given automatic Hilton Diamond status as a perk with the card.
You can also apply for the Hilton Surpass card, which offers Gold status and has a lower annual fee than the Aspire card. But it doesn't offer as many perks.

Paying with a Hilton Co-Branded Credit Card
This is where the “total room cost” field matters. Hilton co-branded credit cards typically earn bonus points on the amount that codes as a Hilton hotel charge on your card statement, which often includes taxes and fees.
That means you can end up earning:
- Hilton base + elite points on eligible spend (usually pre-tax room rate + eligible incidentals), and
- Credit card points on the total amount charged to the hotel (often closer to your final bill)
If you’re using a Hilton card, it’s usually worth charging eligible incidentals to your room so the total paid amount (and therefore card points) reflects the full stay spend.
If I am staying at a Hilton property and plan to pay with my credit card, I always make sure to charge everything I can to my room, so I can get the extra bonus points for those charges.
Hilton Promotions
Have you registered for the latest Hilton Honors Promotion?
Hilton runs limited-time promotions several times per year, and they can materially change how many points you earn on a paid stay. The most important detail is simple: you usually have to register before your stay (or before checkout) to qualify.
If you’re planning a Hilton stay, it’s worth checking the current offer and registering even if you’re not sure you’ll use it. Then, in the calculator, select “Yes” for promotion only if you’re registered for an active promotion that applies to your stay.
Most Hilton promotions stack with both base and elite bonus points, but you must register separately for an active promotion for the bonus to apply.
FAQ's
Yes. You can earn Hilton Honors base points for up to four rooms per stay, as long as all charges are on a single folio (hotel bill).
Base points are earned from your hotel stay and count toward earning elite status. Bonus points come from paying with a Hilton co-branded credit card or from registering for a Hilton promotion. Bonus points do not count toward earning elite status.
It depends on your eligible nightly rate, your elite status, and whether you’re registered for a promotion. The calculator estimates your total based on those inputs.
Not always. Many programs award points on the eligible room rate (and certain eligible incidentals), but taxes and some fees may not earn points.
Typically, no. Most third-party bookings do not qualify for Hilton Honors points or elite benefits.
Absolutely! I have used them for some great vacations at hotels such as Oceania Santa Monica and Grand Hotel Victoria.
Most earn 10 points per $1 on base room rates, but some select brands (e.g., Tru by Hilton, Home2 Suites) earn fewer.
In most cases, Hilton Honors awards points only on eligible charges like room rate, not government taxes or resort fees.
