Marriott is the largest hotel company in the world, and its loyalty program is one of the most popular, especially with business travelers. If you travel for work, you’ll probably stay at a Marriott at some point and need to know how to book with Marriott corporate codes.
As someone who has traveled for business for over 30 years, I am familiar with and use these codes regularly. (However, I only use them at hotels where I am qualified.)
In case you aren’t familiar with them, corporate codes are special codes that identify the negotiated rate a company has with an individual hotel or hotel chain for business travel.
Marriott takes it further and offers corporations discounts for business and leisure travel. Their program for leisure travel is called the Marriott Breakaway Program.
Here is everything you need to know!

What’s included with a corporate rate?
Corporate rates are considered “qualifying rates” by Marriott, allowing you to earn Marriott Bonvoy Points and receive all the benefits associated with Marriott’s elite status.
Corporate discounts can often include more than just a reduced hotel rate. The inclusions will vary depending on what the company has negotiated. Still, it’s not uncommon to receive complimentary breakfast, free WiFi, or free transportation from the hotel to your office. You may also be able to cancel the reservation on the same day as your reservation without penalty.
How to Book with a Corporate Rate
To find out if a corporate rate is available, enter the company’s corporate code in the special rates tab when booking your room. The “Special Rates” box is located when you enter the destination you are looking for on this booking page. It’s the same place you would enter a Marriott coupon or a Marriott promo code.
After you have entered your destination and travel dates, click on the Corporate/Promo Code circle and enter the relevant code. Then hit “find hotels,” and the hotels offering that rate will appear.
If the hotels in your search do not offer the code you are looking for, it will appear “rate unavailable.”
What are the best Marriott Corporate Codes?
As someone who has spent my career in the consulting industry, I know that the largest users of these rates are typically traveling consultants from firms like Accenture, IBM, and Deloitte. Consequently, these companies usually have some of the largest chain-wide corporate discounts.
However, chain-wide discounts are not always the best. Fortune 500 corporations often negotiate rates with hotels near their offices for visiting employees, customers, and suppliers.
Below is an example of some rates for a hotel in Minneapolis near the 3M headquarters. The normal rate for this hotel is $334/night. Accenture has a nice discount at $289, but 3M has the best discount at $158/night, a 53% discount off the standard rate!
Can anyone use them?
No, not everyone is eligible to use a corporate rate. You must be affiliated with the company whose discount code you use. However, while most people think you must be an employee to get the rate, that’s untrue. You just have to be affiliated with the company in some way, such as an employee, customer, or vendor.
For example, if I were an Accenture consultant working on an Oracle ERP project for Cisco, I would be eligible for all three corporate codes (Accenture, Oracle, and Cisco). I would use whatever one offered the best rate at my hotel.
Identification Requirements
If you click on the “Rate Details” link for any corporate rate, you will see the following statement:
Please be prepared to show proof of eligibility for your rate (such as a membership card, corporate or government identification card, or proof of your age).
If the hotel asks you for identification to verify that you are an employee, explain your relationship with the company, and that will typically suffice. More often than not, they don’t even check for identification.
Local Rate vs. Chain-wide Discount
Negotiated corporate rates typically offer the biggest discount between a specific company and a specific Marriott hotel, such as in the case of the 3M example above. However, some large companies with many business travelers, like Accenture, offer a chain-wide discount with Marriott.
The Chain-wide discount is typically a smaller discount that can be used at any property. The Accenture example above is a chain-wide discount rate.
Other Marriott Discounts
If you aren’t eligible for a corporate rate or if it isn’t available at the hotel where you are staying, there are quite a few other options for getting a discount and reducing your nightly rate.
Corporate Leisure Rates
You can see if your company offers a leisure rate via the Marriott Breakaway program, which offers some nice discounts on leisure travel. The savings can be anywhere from 10% to 30%.
Membership Rates for Seniors, AAA/CAA, and the Military
Other Marriott discounts are available for members of the military, AAA/CAA members, and seniors.
Discount Description | Estimated Savings | Booking Link |
Military & First Responder | Save 15% (code XYD) | Book Here |
AAA/CAA Discount | Save 5-10% | Book Here |
Government Rate | Save 5-10% | Book Here |
Senior Discount (62+ years) | Save 5-10% | Book Here |
Employees, Friends, and Family Members
You can save a lot if you are a Marriott Employee or know one through the Marriott Explore program.
University Rates
Another great discount that people are normally unaware of is a university discount. If you stay at a hotel near a major university and visit the campus or take a tour, you can get a hotel discount as a bonus!
If you Google “University of Michigan Hotel Discounts,” you will find a page that shows local hotels in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area that have negotiated rates with the university. The university offers discounts on Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, and several other hotel brands.
These university discounts won’t work on busy weekends, like parents’ weekend or a weekend with a home football game, but I have used them when visiting my kids at off-peak times and have received savings of up to 50% off the rack rate!
Here are some travel pages to demonstrate what I am talking about:
Pro Tip: How to use the Marriott App to Compare Multiple Rates
There is a little-known trick that can help you compare multiple codes and rates at the same time when using the Marriott App. This trick is only available via the app on your phone or tablet, not on your laptop or PC, so please keep that in mind.
Here is how to do it:
Open the Marriott app on your phone or tablet. Enter your location and dates, then click the arrow to open the “Special Rates” section
Once you click on the special rates tab, you will have the option to compare various rates. To do so, go to the field that says “Add Corp/Promo Code” and add up to 4 of the corporate codes you want to compare.
Now, you need to check the box to the right for each rate type you want to compare. You can also check the box to save this for future searches.
The results will be displayed with the hotels offering the corporate rate and which is the best. As you can see from the example below, the best code might not be the same at every hotel in a region. The results in this case show that one of the hotels does not offer a corporate rate; two have the best rate with a Deloitte code, and one has the best rate with an Accenture code.
You can select your property and room from here to complete the booking process.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included with a corporate rate?
Each discount is negotiated separately, so it often has different inclusions. Some offer just the reduced rate, while others can include free WiFi, shuttle transportation to the office, and flexible cancellation policies. To find out what is included in your rate, click on “rate details,” and the specifics of your rate will be displayed.
Do you earn Marriott points?
Yes. These discounted rates are considered “qualified rates” and are eligible to earn base points and any bonus points associated with a Marriott Bonvoy promotion.
Do you receive Marriott Bonvoy status benefits?
Yes. As stated in the question above, corporate discounts are considered “qualified rates” and are eligible to receive the benefits of your Marriott Bonvoy elite status.
What companies have the best rates with Marriott?
The largest consulting companies, such as Deloitte, Accenture, E&Y, etc, will offer the best “Chain-wide” corporate discounts. However, you may find a better rate associated with a major corporation in the area. For example, Proctor & Gamble will likely have the best rates in Cincinnati because it is their headquarters location. Still, Deloitte will have a better chain-wide corporate discount outside of that region.
