Launched in 2007, Edition Hotels is a collaboration between Marriott International and Ian Schrager, the hospitality veteran best known for co-founding the 1970s New York nightclub Studio 54 and the edgy Morgans Hotel Group.

The Edition brand currently has 10 hotels in operation with another 14 ready to open in the next couple of years.  Here is an overview of the brand, history, locations and some other interesting points about Edition Hotels.

A Rocky Start…

The brand got off to a rocky start with its first two properties in Honolulu and Istanbul.  Both of which discontinued their relationship with Marriott and the Edition Brand.  The former Waikiki Edition is now the Modern Honolulu and the former Istanbul Edition is now the Hyatt Centric Levent Istanbul.

Despite these early setbacks, The Edition Brand has hit its stride and has great hotels & resorts (both operating and planned) in strategic markets across North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.

Now Going Strong …

Do Edition Hotels provide Marriott Bonvoy Elite Benefits?

Unfortunately, Edition does not “fully” participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program.  You can earn points for your stays and you can use points to redeem free nights, but the most important Marriott Platinum and Titanium elite benefits are not honored at Edition.

In particular, there’s no free breakfast benefit, no lounge access (because they don’t have lounges) and you are not able to use Suite Night Awards for upgrades when staying at Edition properties.

Using Bonvoy Points for free nights

Bonvoy Point redemptions for free nights are calculated based on the Marriott Bonvoy Rewards category. Each property is placed into a category based on criteria such as brand and location, each with a corresponding per-night points redemption cost.

How many Bonvoy points are needed for free nights at Edition hotels

Edition hotels can range from a category 5 property requiring 35,000 points per night for a standard redemption up to a category 8 property requiring 85,000 points per night.  The breakdown is as follows:

The magazine covers everything from property profiles to food, drink, personalities, travel tips, style, and culture.

Edition Hotel Coupons, Deals, and Promotions

If you are planning an upcoming stay at an Edition property make sure to check out their Special Offers page to save up to 30% on any current promotions they are running.  The offers can be pretty good and change often, so always give it a quick check.
