If you’re trying to figure out how many miles or points you’ll earn—or whether it’s smarter to pay cash or use points—these calculators are built to give you a quick, reliable estimate without guesswork.
Most people use this hub in one of two ways:
- Planning a trip: estimate points earned on a paid stay/flight, then compare against how many points you’d need to redeem.
- Comparing redemption options: calculate CPP (cents per point) to see whether a points booking is a good deal.
How to use these calculators
1) If you’re deciding “cash vs points”
Start here:
You’ll enter the cash price, the points required, and any fees you still pay on an award booking. The calculator returns the value per point so you can quickly tell whether redeeming points is a strong deal or not.
2) If you want to know “how many points will I earn?”
Use the hotel or airline calculator for the program you’re earning in (listed below). These tools estimate base earning plus elite bonuses and (where applicable) promo or card earning inputs.
3) If you want to plan both sides of the equation
A simple workflow that works well:
- Use the relevant points/miles earned calculator for the paid booking scenario
- Use the CPP tool to evaluate the points redemption scenario
- Choose the option that fits your goals (saving cash now vs building points for later)

What “eligible spend” means (and why it matters)
Most loyalty programs do not award points on every dollar you see at checkout. In general:
- Points/miles are usually earned on the base fare or base room rate (and sometimes eligible incidentals charged to the room).
- Taxes, government fees, and many mandatory fees often do not earn points.
That’s why most of our calculators ask for a base/eligible amount. If you only have the total, start with the total and then run the calculator again with a conservative “eligible” estimate—you’ll get a more realistic range.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. These are estimates based on published earning structures and common real-world booking scenarios. We include “how we calculate” and assumptions so you can sanity-check the output.
Because many programs base earnings on the fare/rate portion rather than the full total. When a program treats certain charges differently, we call it out in the calculator notes and exceptions.
It depends on the airline and (sometimes) when the ticket was purchased. That’s why airline calculators should include a fare-type option or an “exceptions” section that reflects current rules.
Usually not—but there are exceptions (especially for elite benefits or on-property spend). If you’re booking an award, the CPP tool is typically the most useful starting point.
We recommend reviewing each calculator regularly (and whenever a program changes earning rules). We include a “Last reviewed and updated” date on each page so it’s clear when the logic was last verified.
