My wife and I decided to spend a long weekend at the Park Hyatt in New York to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I’ve wanted to check out this hotel for a long time—it’s located right in Midtown Manhattan near Carnegie Hall, Central Park, and Rockefeller Center. We stayed three nights in October in a 1-bedroom City View Suite. Here is my review of our stay.
Location
The Park Hyatt New York is at 153 West 57th Street, in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, a couple of blocks from Central Park and Fifth Avenue.

It’s a prime location within walking distance to many of New York City’s most iconic attractions, (Central Park, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, and Fifth Avenue), but not so great if you want to spend time in SoHo or other Lower Manhattan attractions.
My wife loves shopping in SoHo, so we took a 20-minute taxi. If we were to spend more time in Lower Manhattan, I would have stayed at The Dominick in the middle of SoHo.
Lobby
To get to the lobby from the street at the Park Hyatt New York, you’ll first enter through a large set of glass doors. If you’re coming in from the street level, a private entrance leads to an elevator.
The elevator doors open to the lobby bar. To check in, you will turn right, walk past a beautiful floral arrangement, a small seating area, and arrive at the front desk.

Rooms and Suites
There are 210 rooms with 14 different room types, from standard guest rooms to opulent suites such as the One-Bedroom Presidential Suite and the One-Bedroom Royal Suite. The rooms and suites have views of Central Park or the “Manhattan skyline” (i.e., other buildings).
As with all Park Hyatt properties, the design is contemporary luxury with artistic flair, featuring a rotating collection of artwork throughout the property.
We stayed in room 1712, which is a one-bedroom Cityview suite.
Even though I am a Hyatt Globalist and get suite upgrades at check-in (upon availability) and suite upgrade certificates that can be reserved at booking, I used extra points to book this “premium suite” since it was our anniversary. Standard suites were not available at the time of booking, and it would be too risky to bet on a great upgrade at check-in.
Using the extra points was well worth it. The suite was amazing! It was 1,000 sq feet with a city-view living room, a half-bath powder room, and a large master suite. The master bath had a free-standing tub, an enclosed toilet room (with Japanese toilet seats), and a large rain shower with plenty of water pressure.
To start it off, we arrived to a nice plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne!

Restaurants and Bars
There is a lobby restaurant and bar called “The Living Room.” We had so many things planned that there was no time for a drink or breakfast at the hotel, which is a little unusual for us, but it was a short trip with a packed itinerary.

Amenities
The 25th floor is home to Spa Nalani, a 25-meter saltwater lap pool, and a full gym/fitness center.

Pros and Cons (From My Perspective)
Overall, we loved our stay at the Park Hyatt New York and would definitely come again.
Pros – Things I liked:
- Great location – perfectly situated in mid-town and close to many New York attractions.
- Large, luxurious rooms – Since this is a newer hotel, the rooms are much larger than most New York hotels, with beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows.
- Nice amenities – world-class spa, 25-meter saltwater lap pool, and state-of-the-art fitness center.
- Pet and family-friendly – connecting rooms and special treats for your pet are available.
Cons – Things that weren’t so great:
- Price point – the hotel is a great deal when using World of Hyatt points, but otherwise, the nightly rates are very high, even by New York standards
- Dining—Part of the reason we did not eat at the hotel was that the restaurant did not look that great. It was nice as a lobby bar, but I would have expected more of a high-end dining experience at a hotel such as this.
