Hertz CDP codes can be a great way to save money on a rental car — but they can also backfire if you don’t understand how they’re supposed to be used. While many travelers enter a CDP code and never hear a word about it, others find out at the counter that their discount no longer applies.
A Hertz CDP code is a Corporate Discount Program number that can change your rental rate when you book on Hertz. You enter it during booking (or save it in your Hertz profile).
Before you rely on it:
- Use a CDP only if you’re actually eligible through an employer, membership, or credit card benefit.
- Hertz may ask for proof (company ID, membership card, or the credit card tied to the CDP) and remove the discount if you can’t verify it.
- If you want price certainty, a public/member rate is often safer than chasing the biggest CDP discount.
This guide walks through how Hertz CDP codes actually work in real life, who they’re meant for, when verification happens, and when you’re often better off using a different discount altogether.
What’s a Hertz CDP Code?
Hertz uses five different code types, and understanding the difference can save you hundreds of dollars—or cause problems at pickup if you use the wrong one. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Hertz CDP Codes – Corporate Discount Program (Corporate Codes):
The Hertz CDP code is a contract that has been established in cooperation with a company or organization (a Corporate Discount Code) to provide discounts beyond what is provided to the public. Examples of CDP codes include corporate rate plans, credit cards, and travel club discount programs. A CDP Number consists of numerical values and is between 1 and 10 digits long.
- Best for: Maximum savings (up to 50%)
- Risk level: HIGH – Requires proof of eligibility
- What you’ll need at pickup: Corporate ID badge, membership card, or employment verification
- Our recommendation: Only use CDP codes you legitimately qualify for. The savings aren’t worth the rental denial.
2. Hertz PC Codes – Promotion Code:
The PC code is a six-digit number that is associated with a special offer or promotion.
- Best for: Public promotions anyone can use
- Risk level: LOW – No verification required
- What you’ll need at pickup: Just your driver’s license and credit card
- Our recommendation: Stack PC codes with eligible CDP codes for maximum savings
3. Hertz RQ Codes – Rate Code:
The RQ code is a four to six-digit code that is used to trigger discounts off of standard leisure rates.
- Best for: Seasonal deals and special offers
- Risk level: LOW – Usually public offers
- What you’ll need at pickup: Standard documentation
- Our recommendation: Test RQ codes against your CDP code—sometimes RQ rates are better
4. Hertz CV Codes – Convention Number
The CV code is a unique meeting number for a group that will generate pre-negotiated, discounted meeting rates and benefits. Insert the code in the CV field when making a reservation to receive pre-negotiated meeting rates. A CV number can only be used in conjunction with a CDP (Discount Program) or RQ (Rate Code) if the negotiated meeting rate allows additional information to be included in the reservation.
5. Hertz IT Codes – Voucher Code
These codes are less common and are tied to your reward documentation. You don’t need to pay much attention to this code type.
Who Hertz CDP Codes Are Meant For
Hertz CDP codes are typically intended for:
- Employees of companies with negotiated rental contracts
- Members of professional or membership organizations
- Credit card holders whose cards include a Hertz CDP benefit
- Insurance replacement rentals set up through an insurer
If you clearly fall into one of these groups, using a CDP code is usually low risk and works as expected.
When Using a Hertz CDP Code Gets Risky
Issues tend to come up when CDP codes are used outside their intended purpose. From experience, higher-risk situations include:
- Leisure rentals using employer-only corporate CDPs
- International rentals, especially outside the U.S.
- Prepaid (“Pay Now”) reservations
- One-way rentals or specialty vehicles
- Busy travel periods when rates are changing quickly
In these cases, you’re more likely to see verification — or a rate change — at pickup.
Will Hertz Ask for Proof? What Actually Happens at the Counter
This is the question most people are really trying to answer.
Hertz can ask for proof that you qualify for the CDP you used. That might include:
- A company ID
- A membership card
- The credit card associated with the CDP
Sometimes they don’t ask for anything. Other times, they do.
If you can’t verify eligibility, Hertz typically removes the CDP and reprices the rental at the standard rate. Cancellations are rare, but price increases at the counter are not, particularly at airports.
It’s also worth noting that Hertz Gold Plus Rewards status doesn’t override CDP eligibility. Elite status helps with speed and upgrades, not contract enforcement.

Hertz Corporate Codes
Corporate codes offer significant discounts (25-50%) but require verification of employment or affiliation. We’re listing them here so you can check whether your employer is included, but do NOT use these codes if you don’t work for any of these companies.
If you work for a major corporation, especially one with many travelers (IBM, Deloitte, Accenture, etc.), make sure you contact your Human Resources or Corporate Travel Department, as the savings can be significant when using these corporate discount codes. Please ensure you are associated with the company and qualified to use them.

Risks of Using Corporate Codes You Don’t Qualify For
Risk #1: Rental Denial at Pickup
We’ve documented cases where travelers arrived at the counter only to be told their corporate code required company verification. Without proof of employment, Hertz refused to honor the rate and the travelers either:
- Paid 2-3x more for the standard rate
- Lost their rental entirely during peak season
- Had to scramble to find another rental company
Risk #2: Insurance Claim Issues
This is the bigger problem most people don’t think about. If you get into an accident using a corporate account:
- The insurance claim routes through the COMPANY’S policy, not yours
- You may have to prove you were authorized to use that corporate account
- Claims can be denied or significantly delayed
- The company whose code you used may be notified
Risk #3: Account Suspension
Hertz can and does suspend customer accounts for misuse of corporate codes. This means:
- You lose access to your rental history
- You forfeit any loyalty points
- You may be banned from future Hertz rentals
Our Policy:
We list corporate codes below for informational purposes, but we strongly recommend only using codes you legitimately qualify for. The 10-30% savings isn’t worth these risks.
If you work for a large company, contact your HR or Corporate Travel Department—many companies have Hertz agreements you don’t know about.
Hertz Getaway Codes
Hertz Getaway offers great rates and discounts on personal and vacation rentals for employees that work for companies that Hertz has a negotiated rate. Discounts can range from 20-35% off leisure rentals.

We tested 12 Hertz discount codes across 5 popular rental routes to see which provided the best actual savings. Here’s what we found:
Test Scenario: 7-day rental, intermediate SUV, booking 14 days in advance
| Route | No Code Price | Best Code Used | Final Price | Savings | % Saved |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LAX – LAX | $487 | AARP (2007815) | $341 | $146 | 30% |
| MIA – MIA | $523 | Military (2159159) | $356 | $167 | 32% |
| ORD – ORD | $412 | AARP (2007815) | $301 | $111 | 27% |
| DEN – DEN | $445 | AARP (2007815) | $334 | $111 | 25% |
Key Findings:
- AARP code provided the best overall savings across most locations
- Military code had the highest % discount but requires ID verification
- Airport locations showed 5-10% better savings than neighborhood locations
- All codes required cancellation 24+ hours before pickup for refund
Important: These are baseline rates without additional promotions stacked. In several cases, we were able to stack a PC code on top of the CDP code for an additional 5-10% savings.
