What Kind of Student Flight Discount Does Lufthansa Offer?

Lufthansa offers student fares only in Economy Class. They are also only available for students flying to and from certain countries, so be sure to check that you are booking from one of the countries where they offer the student fare before you book the flight.

Student fares are subject to availability and may not be offered on all flights or all departure dates.

If you already have a booking that you made previously and wish to apply for the student discount and additional baggage allowance, you will not be able to do so. You can only avail of the student discount and its benefits while you are making the booking.

How to Book a Student Flight Discount at Lufthansa

Lufthansa has special links for each country they offer the student discount, and the only way to book the discounted ticket is by accessing those links. If you go straight to the Lufthansa website and try to book from there, you will not be able to see and book student fares. You cannot also apply the student discount after you book.

When browsing through the available flight options the student fares are clearly identified as “Student.” Make sure you have selected the student fare to avail of the discount. You will not be able to make changes or apply the discount after you have booked the ticket.

Can I Still Book Student Fares Even If My Country Is Not Listed Above?

According to Lufthansa, student fares are only available for flights departing from the origins listed above and to specific destinations. If you are flying from another country, you can still book their regular fares via their website.

Requirements for Booking a Student Flight Discount at Lufthansa

If you want to book a student flight discount with Lufthansa, you have to be able to meet the following requirements:

• You must be aged 18 and above.
• You must be currently enrolled in a higher education institution.
• You must have an official student email address (needed as a verification step during booking).
• You must have a student identification (such as a valid educational institution-issued student identification card or university admission letter) which you will be required to present when you check in at the counter.

If you are unable to provide proof of your student status when you check-in, you will be charged an additional amount up to the cost of the full published fare.

Make sure your name on all your documents is the same as the one on your passport. Name changes are not permitted.

What If I Don’t Have an Official Student Email Address?

One of the requirements of booking your flight is having a registered student email address. You need this even while you are booking your flight through the Lufthansa website. In case, for any reason, you don’t have a registered student email address, you’ll need to email Lufthansa at [email protected] with proof of your current student status showing the validity dates. They will then enable you to complete the student verification using your private email address.

Special Discounts on Flights

More Baggage

Most student fares offer a checked-in baggage allowance of two bags, each weighing no more than 23 kilograms. Check the baggage conditions for your flight on the flight selection page before you book your flight and pack your bags.

You may also carry one carry-on bag weighing no more than eight kilograms.
