Location
The Conrad Tokyo is centrally located, in the Minato District of Tokyo, right next to the Shiodome train station. It’s a ten minute walk to the Ginza shopping district and about a 15-20 minute walk to Tsukiji Fish Market, two of Tokyo’s most popular attractions.
With respect to airport proximity, it’s a 25-minute drive from Haneda International Airport (HND) and an hour from Narita International Airport (NRT). I flew into and out of HND, so it was very easy to get to and from the airport.
The location is an extremely clean, safe area and is very convenient to get around Tokyo with the train station next door, however, it’s in a business district, so I didn’t love the location. I prefer the Roppongi District where the Grand Hyatt Tokyo and Ritz Carlton are located because they had more shopping and restaurants right outside the hotel entrance without having to take a taxi or train.
Lobby and Check-In
Like many hotels in Tokyo, the hotel is in a skyscraper, so you enter on the ground floor and take an elevator to the lobby on the 28th floor. From there, the hotel occupies floors 28-37.
The lobby is very open, with high ceilings, tons of light and modern decor. All of the hotel restaurants are on the lobby floor, including the Lobby bar, which has beautiful views of Tokyo Bay.
The check in process for my stay was very smooth, despite being very busy. The hotel was sold out this weekend, so I wasn’t able to get the suite upgrade I was hoping for with my Hilton Diamond status, but I did get an upgrade to a room on the executive floor.
Rooms and Suites
The rooms were clean, modern and spacious. I was on the 37th floor, in room 3738, which is an King Executive Room, with a city view, on the same floor as the executive lounge.
The room as a little over 500 square feet with floor to ceiling windows, a king bed, sofa seating area and a desk with ergonomic desk chair, which was a great set up for getting work done and also relaxing.
The bed was extremely comfortable and showcased the most “crisp” bed-making skills I have ever seen. It was made beautifully each day!
Restaurants and Bars
The Conrad Tokyo has four restaurants to choose from, a lobby bar overlooking Tokyo Bay and the executive lounge which serves breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks and appetizers in the evening. The restaurant options include the following:
- Collage – Fine modern French dining
- China Blue – Authentic modern Chinese cuisine
- Kazahana – Classic Japanese
- Cerise – Breakfast and all-day dining
- TwentyEight – Lobby bar and lounge
I wasn’t able to eat dinner at any of the restaurants but had an amazing breakfast at Cerise, had a few drinks at TwentyEight bar, and thoroughly enjoyed the executive lounge. The dining options here are very good!
Executive Lounge
The Executive Lounge (on the 37th floor) was a real treat and one of the best I have ever been to. It provided complimentary breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea, and evening hors d’oeuvres, as well as a complimentary bar which included beer, wine, and liquor.
Amenities
The Mizuki Spa, fitness center and lap pool are on the 29th floor. The spa offers massages, facials, and body treatments as well as locker rooms with steam and sauna.
There were plenty of weights and treadmills in the fitness center and the lap pool was 25 meters long with plenty of seating around it for those who may be swimming with their kids.
Final Thoughts: Conrad Tokyo Hotel Review
Overall, I had a great stay at the Conrad Tokyo and was very impressed with the service, rooms, amenities, and dining. If I were to come to Tokyo again for business, I would definitely stay here.
However, if I was coming for a personal trip with my wife or family, I think I would opt for a hotel that is not in a business district unless I was planning on spending a lot of time in Ginza or needed easy access to a Japan rail pass.
That said, I think this is an amazing hotel and is something any Tokyo traveler should consider.
