If you’re searching for an “Air France student discount,” it’s essential to understand how Air France structures its student and youth fares. Unlike some airlines that offer a flat percentage discount, Air France provides student fares on select routes, often with added baggage and flexibility — but discounted pricing is not guaranteed on every flight.

In many cases, the value of an Air France student fare comes from the included perks, rather than a visibly lower ticket price.

How Air France Student Fares Work

Air France student fares are typically available on long-haul international routes, particularly between North America and Europe. These fares are most commonly offered in Economy Class and may include benefits that standard economy tickets do not.

What Student Fares May Include

  • Additional checked baggage allowance
  • Reduced change or rebooking fees
  • Flexible travel conditions compared to basic economy fares
  • Eligibility limited to certain routes and fare classes

Student fares must usually be selected during the booking process by choosing the appropriate student or youth fare option, when available.

How to Book Student Discount Fares on Air France

  1. Choose your destination on Air France’s booking page.
  2. Click on “Passengers” and select “Student Major (18-29 years).

  1. View the student rate in the right-hand column (if available).
  2. Book your flight and pay the necessary fees.
  3. Pack your bags and enjoy your trip!

Why Air France Student Discounts Don’t Always Appear

One of the most common frustrations students experience with Air France is searching for a “student discount” and seeing no obvious price difference. This is normal — and it doesn’t mean the program isn’t real.

Here’s why Air France student discounts can be difficult to spot:

  • Student fare inventory is limited and route-specific
  • Discounted pricing may already be built into the fare
  • In some cases, student fares cost the same as standard fares but include extra baggage or flexibility instead of a lower price
  • Availability varies by departure city, destination, and season
  • Youth fares may appear instead of student fares

Because of this, Air France student fares should be evaluated based on total value, not just the headline price.

Who Qualifies for Air France Student Fares?

Eligibility can vary depending on the specific fare type being offered.

Student Fare Eligibility

  • Must be an enrolled student (full-time or part-time)
  • Proof of student status may be required at booking or check-in
  • Fares are often restricted to certain routes and travel periods

Youth Fare Eligibility

  • Some Air France discounts are age-based rather than enrollment-based
  • Youth fares may apply to travelers within a specific age range
  • Proof of age may be required instead of proof of enrollment

Because Air France blends student and youth pricing, travelers should always review the fare rules carefully before booking.

Air France Student Discount Perks

Free Checked Bags

Having enough luggage space is always a concern when flying from one place to another. If you are able to secure an Air France student discount, luggage space is one less thing to worry about. Their student rate includes up to 2 checked baggage (23 kg/50.7lb maximum)—for free. Plus the Air France Carry on policy allows you to also bring one carry-on bag and a personal item for free!

Flexible Bookings

Travel plans can change even before you know it. One of the perks of getting a student discount on Air France is that it allows you a little bit more flexibility. No matter the reason, you can make changes to your tickets with the student rate—whether changing your trip or postponing it entirely. You can even request a refundable voucher if you no longer wish to travel.

Be sure to check Air France’s flexible booking policy for flight changes, cancellations, refunds, and more, as they may change at any time.

Requirements to Get an Air France Student Fare

Aside from the necessary travel documents (passport and student visa or student residence permit), Air France has other requirements for travelers who want to make use of their student discount.

To be eligible for Air France’s student flight discount, you must be between 18-29 years old. You also need to submit at least one of the following:

  • Valid student card
  • Proof of enrollment
  • Admission letter
Sudent Airfare Discounts require a valid International Student Identity Card
A valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is one of the items you will need for a Student Discount

You will need to bring these requirements with you when you travel as they may ask for them from you at the check-in counter and boarding gate. Passengers who do not meet the above conditions may have to pay additional fees.

The Air France Youth Pass

Air France has another pricing program called the “Youth Pass.” It’s for passengers between 12 to 24 years of age. Unlike the student discount, you don’t need to submit school-related documents if you want to make use of the Youth Pass. You must also pay the membership fee of €49 per year.

The Air France Youth Pass membership fee gives you up to a 30% discount on tickets based on the standard fare. Ticket rates include taxes but exclude service fees (which are free of charge on airfrance.com).

Youth Pass tickets are flexible, allowing you to refund them if your trip gets canceled. When you buy a ticket through the Youth Pass, it also includes one checked bag.

If you are likely to fly with Air France often, you might consider investing in the Youth Pass program. It’s also important to note that the Youth Pass is only applicable to the following destinations:

  • Metropolitan France—the whole domestic network (except for the Caribbean region)
  • Corsica (marketed by Air France and operated by Air Corsica)
  • Europe (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom)
  • And other places (including Algeria, Armenia, Georgia, Morocco, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine)

Before you get your Youth Pass, be sure to check which destinations it applies to so you know whether it is something you’d like to subscribe to for a whole year. If not, and you are a student, you may want to check into their student discount rates instead.

Air France Student Discount vs Other Airlines

Compared to airlines such as Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, or Etihad, Air France’s student fares are less predictable. While those airlines often publish clear student discounts, Air France’s approach relies more heavily on route-specific availability and bundled benefits.

Air France can still be a good option for students flying between Europe and North America, especially when extra baggage and flexible changes are important. However, it may not always deliver the lowest upfront price.
