Family Trip to Soho and The Hamptons
Recently, I spent a quick night in New York City, prior to heading out for a trip to The Hamptons. I was traveling with my two college-aged kids, as well as my husband. Often, he is the one who finds great hotels for us to stay in but referred to me on this one since I am in the city more often.
We wanted to do some shopping with my son and daughter and felt that Soho had the most retail options for them.
When looking for the best hotel that would be fun and hip, but also have all the upscale amenities we enjoy, I came upon The Dominick Hotel.
Inspirato SoHo at The Dominick
The Dominick Hotel has 391 hotel rooms and suites, with beautiful views of SoHo, Manhattan, and the Hudson River. The higher up you go, the better the views get.
Inspirato has partnered with The Dominick and has 26 rooms, suites, and penthouses to choose from as an Inspirato Pass or Club member.
Most of the Inspirato rooms are in the SoHi view section of the hotel, but there are also a couple of Penthouse suites. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and are high enough up that they offer the best views of the city!
Location
The hotel is located off Spring Street, which also is blocks away from, in my opinion, the best boutiques in NYC. There are so many retail options for different ages, at all different price points. Being within walking distance of these stores was great!
We were also within walking distance of some great restaurants, bagel stores, coffee shops, and bars.
Check-in Process
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest bellman I have ever encountered. He had a genuine interest in my family and knew us on a first-name basis within a few minutes. Not a bad first impression!
Then, while we checked in, we were offered refreshments and were checked in immediately. Since it is hard to find bedrooms in the city with double beds, we ended up booking three rooms, one for my husband and me, then one for each of our kids.
At first, I was not thrilled about this idea, but they had put us all next to each other in a small, private corridor, so I felt like we were all together.
The Room
The view from our suite was breathtaking. We overlooked the Hudson River on one side, with Soho and Manhattan on the other.
The showers were great, and the bathrooms were beautiful. Even though we weren’t in the rooms too much, it was refreshing to come back to the hotel after a long day of walking the city.
Also, I am a self-described bed snob. I like bedding in hotels that are not covered with lots of heavy fabric pillowcases or comforters. GROSS! And even though you expect luxury pillows and bedding in five-star hotels, you don’t always get it!!
Restaurants and Bar
There are three restaurant options at The Dominick. The signature restaurant is called Vestry, which is led by Michelin Star Chef Shaun Hergatt.
There is also an Asian-Hawaiian fusion restaurant called El Ta’Koy which offers indoor/outdoor dining on the 7th-floor terrace next to the pool. Finally, there is the Mezzanine which offers an all-day menu of contemporary American cuisine.
All three restaurants looked great, but we did not have the time to try any of them during this trip as we had already made reservations outside of the Dominick. Next time, we will give one of them a try, at least for lunch or breakfast.
Amenities
There was both a gym and a spa that looked wonderful, which we will try the next time we stay in Soho.
The Dominick has an outdoor pool on the 7th-floor roof deck, which is open seasonally and has plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas. While the pool may be small by traditional resort standards, it is a rarity to find an outdoor pool and terrace like this in New York City!
Inspirato Value with this property
We used our Inspirato Travel Credits for this stay, which we received as a signup bonus when we joined the program in January. These credits can be applied toward the cost of nightly rates and experiences throughout the Inspirato program.
We only had to pay out-of-pocket taxes and fees for each room and didn’t have to pay extra for parking, WiFi, or a resort fee. On top of that, we booked in August when rates are much lower than other times of the year (rates are often double what we paid), so this trip was an amazing value for us!
Restaurants near The Dominick Hotel
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone based on the amenities, service, and location. Below are some of my favorite Soho dining recommendations:
- Jack’s Wife Frieda – for Breakfast
- Balthazar – French Brasserie
- Shuka – Great Mediterranean Food
- Boqueria – Spanish Cuisine
- Sadelles – Great Bagels and Breakfast
